Darryl Hummel passed away peacefully in his north Fargo home on Tuesday, January 8, 2020.
Darryl was born on October 23, 1951 in Mott, North Dakota, the son of John and Claudia (Horner) Hummel. Darryl grew up on the family farm just outside of Mott, where he learned the value of hard work at an early age. He appreciated growing up in a small ND town and was a good steward of the land. Upon graduation from Mott High School, he moved to Fargo to attend North Dakota State University and worked at Hall’s Clothing at West Acres where he met the love of his life, Cathy (Davenport). Darryl and Cathy were married June 30, 1973 in Fargo, ND. The two of them spent the early years of their marriage between Minneapolis, MN and New Leipzig, ND before settling down to raise a family in Fargo. Darryl worked in the Building Materials Industry in various sales roles at Dakota Sash & Door, Simco Windows, Lavelle Lumber, Builders Supply, and D&M Industries. This included being a national sales rep introducing Tyvek.
He loved spending time with his family, friends, and animals. He enjoyed football, hunting, and time on lakes Lida and Sallie. Darryl loved to share stories of his life on the farm or was there to just listen. He was noble in his intentions throughout his life.
Darryl is survived by his wife, Cathy; two sons, Kristopher (Kristin) and grandson, Finn of Eden Prairie, MN and Joshua of North Hills, CA.
Darryl was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
