Daniel Sauvageau

October 14, 1951 — May 15, 2018

After a brief battle with cancer, Daniel Sauvageau passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

Daniel was born in Hull, Canada, to Eugene and Anita Sauvageau. He loved his French Canadian heritage and left Quebec only when it became too expensive to continue a long distance dating relationship! So in 1989 he married Mary Bjerke and moved to Minneapolis, where he was known by one of his young nieces as Daniel, the French “comedian”. He went back to school and changed occupations, from working on phone lines at Bell Canada to IT networking here in the US; he was recently retired. In August, 1997, Mary and Daniel brought home their son Jose, from Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Daniel loved gardening and cooking and thought everything tasted better with a good French sauce and smooth jazz playing in the background.

He also enjoyed traveling, but never more than when he was with his son and buddie, Jose. Daniel was active in Special Olympics for many years, cheering on Jose and his friends; he was an adoring father. He certainly wasn’t a perfect person, but Mary always felt “…he was perfect for me”.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jose; parents and brothers-in-law, Bernard Allaire and David Blehm.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Bjerke; siblings, Monique Allaire, Michel (Louise) Sauvageau and Jacqueline (Serge) Swanson; in-laws, Julie Blehm, Rebecca (John) Mason, Beth (Bill) Remington, Carol Bjerke and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Special thanks to his doctors and nurses at the Roger Maris Cancer Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Interment will be at a later date at St. John Cemetery, Hatton, ND, where his son rests.

Memorials can be made to Special Olympics North Dakota - Cass County (Area 6), P.O. Box 308, Fargo, ND 58107.
