Dan Sholl, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side, following a battle with congestive heart failure.
Born on October 4, 1952, at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, Dan was the second of five children born to William and Norma (Ulsaker) Sholl. The family spent several years in Kindred, ND (1959-1964), before settling back in Fargo, where Dan was confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in 1968.
Dan graduated from Fargo North High School in 1971 and soon after founded the family business with his brothers, Dakota Hose and Equipment, that same year. He devoted 48 years to the company before retiring on June 1, 2019.
As a teenager, Dan could often be found honing his skills at Gold Crown Billiards, where he earned the nickname "Shifty" for his impressive pool game. That pool hall was the backdrop for countless memories and lifelong friendships.
1979 was a standout year for Dan-he won the Winnibigoshish Walleye Tournament, bought a new fishing boat, and met the love of his life, Lisa Fosness. They shared a life full of love, laughter, eventually welcoming their daughter, Sadie, in 1995- born as a gift on Dan's own birthday, October 4th, a shared celebration he cherished deeply.
For over 40 years, Dan spent his summers on Pelican Lake, where he found peace and a reliable fishing spot. He was especially proud to provide the walleye for the much-anticipated annual August fish fry- a tradition that brought friends and family together year after year.
Dan was a proud member of the Fargo Elks and enjoyed time with family, fishing trips, and storytelling-always with his signature dry wit.
He is survived by his wife Lisa, daughter Sadie (Marta) of Chicago, and his siblings: Bill (Charlotte) of Mesa, AZ; John of Fargo; Eric (Tracy) of Pelican Lake, MN; and Elizabeth (Steve) Loge of Fargo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Norma, and his father-in-law, Norman Fosness.
Dan will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, deep loyalty to those he loved (and favorite sports teams), and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.
A Celebration of his life will be at 10:00 with lunch to follow at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home Fargo. Burial will be at Kindred Cemetery.
