Obituary

Craig Steven Thompson, age 64, of Fargo ND, passed away peacefully, June 13, 2026 following an extended illness. His mother and his sister were by his side.

Craig was born on July 30, 1961 at St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, ND to Gary and Sharon Thompson. Craig and his only sibling, his sister Brenda, were "Irish twins" and he had a close relationship with her. Growing up they were known for frequently searching for fossils, semi-precious stones, different types of bird feathers, driftwood, and ancient artifacts.

Craig's early years were spent in the small town of Lisbon, ND. Living on the outskirts of town, he was lucky to have the opportunity to grow a keen sense of adventure. He learned to hunt and fish at an early age and spent whole days hiking, climbing, and exploring the miles and miles of the surrounding landscape of Lisbon. The town had a swimming pool where he would go meet up with his friends almost every day in the summer. He loved to ride his bike and he learned to ride motorcycles when he was 8 years old.

Craig went to church and Sunday school every Sunday from the age of 4 or 5, until he graduated High School. He was confirmed Lutheran, at the age of 14. He knew the bible and he believed in God. While growing up at home he and his family would say Grace together, at every dinner. Holidays were elaborate, with big meals, all the fixings and a table set with elegance.

The family relocated to Spokane, WN in 1974 where he continued to develop a nature-loving adventuresome spirit. He learned to play the guitar and got his first job at a pizza place. He graduated from North Central High School in 1979 and went on to join the Navy, traveling the world on aircraft carriers and submarines.

In 1985, after his military service, Craig settled in Fargo where he worked for Service Master and after 2 years there, he was motivated to start an upscale business of his own in deep cleaning, restoration services, bringing furniture and carpets back to life. Craig was ambitious, dedicated and a hard worker. His independent personality and drive for success never overshadowed his sensitive nature and many acts of kindness.

Craig purchased his Fargo home in 2005, where he lived for 21 years. During that time he discovered he had an amazing talent for wood working. It became his passion. He used his brilliance and creativity to bring his home to life.

Craig's memory will be cherished by those he leaves behind: his mother, Sharon Thompson; daughter, Chloe Tavener; sister, Brenda (Robert) Perez; niece, Mackensie; and nephew, Robert.

Craig was welcomed into the arms of the Lord, following those who preceded him in faith: his father, Gary Thompson; grandparents, Norman and Vivian Nelson; grandparents, Bert and Dorothy Thompson; aunt & uncle, Vicki and Gary Cumber; and Uncle, David Voxland.

A visitation and memorial service will be held at 5:00pm on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo, with visitation one hour prior.

Our family is profoundly grateful for Giselle Ishimwe and the caregivers beside her, who served as earthly angels during his time at A Place to Call Home. With deepest gratitude for your healing hands and caring hearts, we thank you.
