Obituary

Charles ‘Chuck’ Smith, 71, passed away on Thursday, August 13th, 2026, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Charles Thomas Smith was born January 7, 1955, at Trinity Hospital in Jamestown, ND, the son of Harry L. and Geraldine (Clark) Smith. He had fond memories of time spent with his parents, siblings, extended relatives and many, many friends. He attended Saint John’s Academy in elementary school, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1973, where he lettered in Football and Track. Chuck ensued a brief move to Fort Lauderdale, FL, only to return home and plant his roots back in Jamestown, ND.

On February 20, 1976, he married his beloved wife, Vicky Miller, at Concordia Lutheran Church, in Jamestown, ND. He pursued his career as a professional driver for United Parcel Service (UPS), retiring in June 2006 with 30 years of service. (Note: He did not need a backseat driver because he was a professional driver.) They made their home in Jamestown, ND, where they raised their 3 children: Tesha (Smith) Roehrich, Stacy Smith and Taylor Smith.

Chuck had an infectious smile that lit up any room he entered and attracted many friends and admirers throughout his life. He cherished so many things, from his softball buddies, motorcycle rides, boat adventures, fishing excursions and hunting experiences to his working days in Oakes, ND, and, most importantly, his family. Chuck was a proud grandpa who enjoyed watching his five grandchildren: Meghan (Roehrich) Tangen, Madison (Roehrich) Greely, McKenzie (Roehrich) Albert, Liam Smith and Harper Smith at their sporting events. He was well known around any ball diamond, gymnasium, hockey rink and football field with his unwavering support. He was a die-hard MN Vikings fan. His hobbies included tying fishing lures, watching game shows and taking a casino trip with his wife and/or kids.

Chuck touched many people’s lives by showing grace during troubles, offering kindness when it was difficult and choosing peace over pride in the moments that mattered most. He will forever be remembered as the life of the party.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Vicky (Miller) Smith; daughter, Tesha (Chad) Roehrich; granddaughters, Meghan (Mason) Tangen, Madison (Drew) Greely, McKenzie (Christian) Albert; great-grandchildren, Naomi, Anais and Malachi Albert, Aria Greely, and Reign Tangen; son, Taylor (Alicia) Smith; grandson, Liam Smith and granddaughter, Harper Smith; sister, Cynthia (Dave) Hinz; and two brothers, Dode (Connie) Smith and James ‘Jim’ (Karen) Smith.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy; his parents; 2 brothers, Kendall and Jay Smith; a nephew, Kevin Smith; and a niece, Tammy Norheim.
