Charles "Chick" Mohrman

July 15, 1925 — April 6, 2016

Charles Mohrman. Born July 15, 1925 in Auburn NE. His parents were Roscoe and Eunice Mohrman. Passed away April 6, 2016. He grew up in Lincoln NE, the oldest of three children (sister, Maisie Paustian, brother, Gordon Mohrman). He served his country as a member of the “Greatest Generation”, was a loving husband and proud father of three girls, a business executive serving with General Motors Acceptance Corporation for 36 years, and an involved member of his community and church. He was an avid, competitive, athlete. If it was round, Chick was likely chasing it...from baseball, to squash, to tennis and racquetball. He was also a passionate golfer, enjoying his many years of playing at the Fargo Country Club and courses around the world.

A common term we hear nowadays is “be authentic”. Chick could have written the book on authenticity. There was never an underlying, deceptive or misleading reason for anything he did. What you saw was what you got. He will also be remembered for that quick wit and wry mischievous smile…and the ability to mix a fine martini!

It is said a daughter needs a Dad to be the standard against which she will judge all men. When you think of daughters Nancy, Sara and Amy, you realize what a great role model Chick was. He raised his daughters to be independent, strong, and athletic. He taught them meaning of integrity and doing things the “right” way. Sons-in-law, Bruce Smith, Jim Masters and Roger Olson see evidence of his work every day.

Lastly, Chick was a thoughtful and organized decision maker. Every tool in his tool shop hangs exactly inside the carefully painted outline on his pegboard. His great decision making capacity is also evidenced by whom he chose as his lifelong friend and mate. Mary (Hubka) and Chick were married more than 62 years. They were both University of Nebraska grads, lived and breathed Nebraska football.

We will miss Chick, but he lives on through Mary, his daughters, sons-in-law, four grandsons (John, Scott, David and Brian) and a grand-daughter-in-law (Kelly) and great grandson (Mason). Chick Mohrman…. “A man unlike any other”.

Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Red River Valley.
