Carl J. Salthammer, 82 of Fargo, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Carl was born April 23, 1931 to parents Mabel and Adolph Salthammer in Barnes County, ND. He attended school in Skandia Township and worked at his parents’ farm until enlisting in the US Army, where he served as a Corporal with honors in Germany during WWII. After his discharge from the Army, Carl returned home and continued farming with his brother Arvid until moving to New Horizons Manor in Fargo, where he had resided since 1988.

Carl is survived by his sister, Ruby of Grand Marais, MN; nephews Jeff (Darlene) and Brad Else; niece Benita Eider; great-nephews David Eider, John Else and Jeff Else, Jr.; great-niece Rochelle Else, and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marjorie and Bernice, and brother Arvid.
