Bette Ann Bossart (McDunn) died peacefully at the age of 82 on June 29th, 2025 with family and friends along with the caring help of Eventide and Ethos Hospice staff in Fargo, ND.
Bette was born on July 25th, 1943 in Barnesville, MN growing up with Florence and Charles McDunn along with her siblings. She graduated from Barnesville HS where she was an accomplished diver and swimmer. Bette was crowned Ms. Northwest in 1961 sharing her beautiful smile and spirit with all. She went on to attend Moorhead State University physical education program.
Bette met David Bossart, her husband of 62 years, while working at the Holiday Inn in college. They were married on June 7th, 1963 at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville and moved to Grand Forks for David to attend law school at UND. Together they moved to Fargo to start their family on 7th Street South. Bette and Dave had two children, Tom on August 9th, 1966 and Stacy Jo on August 24th, 1969. Bette was an amazing loving mother and wife. She loved fully with grace and compassion. She planned the BEST parties ever for all she loved to celebrate them!
Bette was also an active member of her community volunteering and helping others by giving of her time, talent and treasure. She began the candy striper program at Dakota Hospital. She helped decorate to the nines the many festivities at her Church of Nativity. Bette helped put on the Presentation Sister Annual Tea. She ran a fundraiser store for the FM Symphony with her dear friend Ronda.
Bette was a faithful sponsor to many in Al Anon helping others with her sage advice and gentle wisdom. She also worked several jobs in the community at Fargo National Bank, First National Bank, a local dress shop run with her sister-in-laws and Bernie's Liquor doing bookwork.
Bette enjoyed lake life at West Battle Lake with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and "camp director" party planner. Bette found great joy with friends happily hosting, compassionately listening, and power shopping. She loved being part of many social groups such as Marriage Encounter, Bridge Club, Book Club, Al Anon, "Fully Alive", "The Dollies", and her special "Lemon Sisters".
Bette will always be remembered for her ability to find gratitude and grace in everything she did and everyone she encountered. Anyone who knew her was blessed by her presence!
She is survived by her husband David Bossart; children, Tom (Stacey Elizabeth) Bossart, Stacy (Brandan) Anderson, grandchildren, Gunnar, Sean, Gabby, TJ, Kendall and Isabel; sister, Phyills (Raymond) Peppel; brother, Wayne (JoAnn) McDunn.
She was preceded in death by parents, Florence and Charlie McDunn; siblings, Bob McDunn and Ruth McDunn; and grandchild, Sophie Mae Anderson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 3rd, 2025 at Nativity Church of Fargo at 10 am with her burial at Riverside Cemetery and lunch to follow . A Prayer Service will be held on July 2nd, 2025 at 6:30 pm with a visitation from 4:30-6:30 pm at the Nativity Church of Fargo as well. Both services will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.
Memorials are preferred to Roger Maris Cancer Center.
