Beryl Gilbertson

March 27, 1936 — August 12, 2010

On August 12, 2010 our wife, mother and grandmother, Beryl Joanne (Tweten) Gilbertson passed away peacefully in her sleep. After many years of illness she is at rest with her best friend our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Beryl was born March 27, 1936 in Grand Forks ND. She was the 7th child born to Sidney and Olga Tweten. Beryl spent her childhood on a farm near Reynolds, ND. She attended public schools and attended Concordia College. On June 15, 1957 she married Ernest V. Gilbertson as he was finishing his last year of medical school. They began their life together in Kansas City, KS and spent time in St. Paul, MN, Camarillo, CA and Spokane, WA before moving to Devils Lake, ND in 1963. Following their retirement in 1995 they moved to Fargo, ND. Beryl and Ernie were blessed with four children. Daughters, Kristen (Dave) Olesen of Yellowknife, NWT, Maren (Peder) Nees of Red Lodge, MT, Stephanie (Gregg) Hammerly of Shoreview, MN, and son David of Aberdeen, SD. Beryl was an amazing woman who lived out her faith and dedicated her life to the work of the Lord. She was a homemaker and frequent volunteer for her community and church. She was involved in quilting groups, Bible studies, and many other service groups throughout the years. Friends and family appreciated Beryl’s incredible baking and cooking skills. Known for her breads, she has passed this legacy on to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid quilter and made a special Grandma quilt for each of her 6 grandchildren: Jessica Nees, Allison, Chris and Aaron Hammerly and Annika and Liv Olesen. Beryl was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis in 1974. With grace and deep faith, she dealt with many health issues over the years. In January 1998 she was given the gift of continued life when she received a liver transplant. Because of this gift of life Beryl was able to spend 12 more years with us. Beryl was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold, Ken, and Obed Tweten and Sister Harriet Tufte. Beryl is survived by her husband Ernie, her children and 6 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Mount Carmel Ministries, PO Box 579 Alexandria MN 56308 or to the charity of your choice.
