Bertha “Birdie” Schulte, 93, Williston, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died at the Tioga Long term Care Facility Friday, August 13, 2010. Birdie was born March 22, 1917, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Huseby) Grove, Maynard, MN, where she was raised and educated. As a young woman, she worked as a beautician in Glenwood, MN. July 21, 1940, she and Robert (Bob) Schulte were united in marriage in Granite Falls, MN. They moved to Moorhead where they raised their family. They also enjoyed many family gatherings at their lake home on Pelican Lake, MN. Following their retirement, they spent winters in Tempe, AZ, and the summers at the lake. Bob died in 1981 at the age of 62. Birdie continued to spend time in Arizona and at the lake until her health declined. In 1996, Birdie became a resident at the Kensington Assisted Living Facility in Williston where she has been a resident for more than 14 years. Birdie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. She truly embraced her Christianity and Catholicism. She was most grateful to God for all her talents, ambitions and successes. Birdie and her husband shared their love for music. They had many musical sessions with both having such musical talents to play and harmonize their singing. She loved bridge, golf, handy-work and many other talents, but she truly loved her family and was so proud of all of them. Birdie was known as an elegant, gracious lady, meeting everyone with a smile. She will be sorely missed by many. She is survived by three children, Roberta Schulte, Sunnyvale, CA; Linda (Roger) Halverson, Tioga and Dr. Robert (Jeannine) Schulte, Fargo; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Birdie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and four sisters. A funeral service was held in Williston, ND. Graveside Service: Thursday, September 2, 2010, 1:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
