Ava Alta Hagen, 92, passed away Sunday March 23, 2008, at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND, under the care of Red River Valley Hospice. Ava was born Dec 29, 1915, in Fargo, ND, to William and Elizabeth Schackow. She grew up and went to school in Fargo. Ava was an aspiring beautician, until she married Edward Hagen May 28, 1938, during which time Ed joined the army in 1942. While stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, Ava drove truck for the Army while Ed was a Military Police Officer. After being discharged from the Army, they moved back to Fargo to start their family. Pursuing her lifelong dream as an interior designer, Ava’s creative flair was apparent in the numerous homes and businesses she decorated in the upper Midwest while being employed by Coleman’and Elsie’s Decorating, both of Fargo. After Ed’s death in 1966, Ava traveled all over the world with her sister, Ferne, and many friends and family. Throughout Ava’s life, she had a passion for music and was a performer with the Sweet Adelines Chorus. She was very active in her church and assisted with many volunteer activities throughout the years. Her later years were spent in Fargo and, most recently, she was a resident of Bethany Homes. Ava is survived by two sons, Terry (Bobbi) Hagen, Bismarck, ND; Bruce Hagen, Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Chad(Tracey) Hagen, Savage, MN; Michael(Michele) Hagen, Salina, KS; Tara Hagen, Fargo, ND; Mandi Hagen, Fargo, ND; three great-grandchildren, Lauren Hagen, Savage, MN; Becca Hagen, Salina, KS; Ava Volk, Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Hagen; three brothers, Joe, Ray, Kenny; two sisters, Ferne, Elizabeth.
