Arnold Lynford Hermunslie went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 91 years old on July 22, 2008 at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND. He was born on January 6, 1917 in Abercrombie, ND to Fred and Inga (Rustvang) Hermunslie. He graduated from high school and to further his education went to Minneapolis to attend Dunwoody Institute, studying automotive engineering. He figured some day he would own a car and wanted to be informed. In the fall, he attended Augsburg College for three and a half years. He enlisted in the US Army and served for three years. Part of the time he was an instructor, teaching radio to officers and enlisted men. After his honorable discharge, he went back to Augsburg College and finished his B.A. degree. His first teaching position was at Oak Grove Lutheran High School as a Math and Science teacher. He went to NDSU in the evenings for his Masters Degree in Secondary Education. He was made a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Later on, Arnold was made Principal then Superintendent. He stayed twenty years at Oak Grove and was very dedicated to his profession. An opportunity came to him when the new South High School opened. He was offered one of the Assistant Principal positions. His responsibilities included drawing up the master schedules for all of the students, teachers and counselors. He enjoyed schoolwork and after fifteen years, he retired at the age of 65 years. Following schooling, farming was his next love. He would figure out the school scheduling on a tractor during summer vacations. Arnold was an active member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, attending bible studies, serving as President of the congregation, and taking part on other committees. Arnold was married to Jeanette Plank, the love of his life, for nearly 61 years. They were blessed with three daughters. Arnold is survived by his wife, Jeanette, Fargo, ND; three daughters, Cheryl Lynn (Wayne) King, Plymouth, MN, Cynthia Marie (Theodore) Zierhut, Bloomington, MN, and Clarice Ione (David) Shusterich, Plymouth, MN; two sisters, Doris Sorum, and Florence (Maurice) Myhre, both of Pelican Rapids, MN; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold. Funeral Service: Friday, July 25, 2008 at 1:00pm at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at church. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND. Memorials are preferred to the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church Light of Christ Campaign
