On Sunday, December 7, 2014 heaven received a bib overall wearing, burly bearded, belly chuckling angel who galloped in bare back on a wild paint horse!
Big Al was born on December 5, 1951 to Philip and Ruth Hoglund. Al was the second of three boys (Tom & Stan) and raised with a love of horses and duck hunting. From 1970-1972 he courageously served as a medic in Vietnam. During this time Al made many lifelong friends that to this day know and love him as "Doc". In 1972 Alan married Deborah Pergande and together they proudly raised 8 children. Although their marriage did not last, their love and respect for the family they created did, and because of this, they continued their partnership and friendship “until death do us part".
He made a living as a partner in APH & Son Construction. His pride and craftsmanship showed in all he did. With completion of every project he’d add more new friends! Al loved spending time visiting, bragging about his kids and grandkids and most of all, spending time on the farm with his true love - his horses!
Al lived every day of his life as if it was his last; he was grateful for every minute he had with the people he loved. He was truly one of a kind, the most generous man with a heart of gold. Al will be forever remembered for his infectious laugh, big bear hugs, being the life of the party, using the "claw" to "get your gizzards" and for his world famous crispy cakes, shrimp dip and fried tacos!
Al is welcomed in heaven by his father Phil and his daughter Cassidy. Survived by his children, Saadya Schweitzer (Stacey), Wayne Hoglund, Troy Hoglund, Indera Heath, Cody Hoglund (Charissa), Alison Faras (Sean) and Katie Fisher (Jon), as well as a gaggle of grand and great-grandchildren.
In respect of his wishes we will honor his life with a happy hour on Dec. 12th from 4-8 at Hagge’s Bar & Grill in Mapleton.
"Cause he's an old hippie and he don't know what to do. Should he hang on to the old, should he grab on to the new. He's an old hippie, this new life is just a bust. He ain't trying to change nobody he's just trying real hard to adjust"
