She was born April 28th, 1949, in Fargo, a daughter of the late Sanford and Myrtle Tingley. Mary grew up on the family farm near Kathryn, ND, and attended schools in Eastedge and Nome before graduating from high school in Enderlin. She continued her education at the Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing. On April 4th, 1970, Mary married Gene Schlecht at Waldheim Lutheran Church, near Kathryn. Mary was strong in her faith and a member at Peace Lutheran Church, where she also volunteered as a Parish Nurse. As a member of Beta Sigma Phi, she made lifelong friends. Mary had a great passion for life and persevered through many physical and health challenges. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and had a special bond with each of them. Some of Mary's favorite past times included collecting Cherished Teddies, cheering for the NDSU Bison, and embroidery. She made many beautiful pieces of counted cross stitch and hardanger on linen. Mary is survived by her children Heidi Dunek and her husband Ken of Houston, TX, Joseph Schlecht and his wife Kellie of Edina, MN, Leah Schlecht of Moorhead, MN, and her grandchildren Nora Klocke, Hannah Klocke, Sofia Dunek, Isabella Klocke, William Klocke, and Lily Schlecht. She is also survived by her siblings Albert Tingley of Surprise, AZ, Ed Tingley of Bloomington, MN, and Betty Burkett of Post Falls, ID. In addition to her husband Gene, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers John and Dave. There will be a visitation time on Sunday, November 24, from 2-4 pm at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 25 at 11 am at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo, and the graveside service will follow at 2:30 at the Enderlin Cemetery.
