Margaret Downham, age 96, passed away March 21, 2017 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo.

Margaret Cecil (Iverson) Downham was born February 5, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Carl and Grace (Nelson) Iverson. She was the fourth child of a family of six. Her Norwegian heritage was a source of great pride for her. Throughout her life, she pursued various occupations across the country. She married Robert Downham on June 8, 1946. Margaret and Bob spent the majority of their married life in Grand Forks, ND raising their family. After retirement, they moved to Colorado, where Bob died in 1987. Eventually, Margaret returned to North Dakota, where she resided until her death.

Margaret enjoyed being with family, volunteering, and sewing. She golfed until the age of 89, winning many tournaments. She was an active member of the Lutheran church her entire life. Margaret’s dry humor kept many people on their toes.

She is survived by her son, Tom (Joan) of Laramie, WY; two daughters, Beverly (Brad) Pratt of Fargo, ND, and Barb (Dave) Petteys of Thompson Falls, MT; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; four brothers, and one sister.

A gathering to celebrate Margaret’s life and inurnment will be held at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, at 10:00am on Saturday, June 17, 2017.
