Obituary
John Gwyther, 96, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
John Elliott Gwyther was born January 25, 1920 in Fort Rice, ND to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Elliott) Gwyther. He grew up and attended schools in Fargo, ND, graduating from Fargo Central High School. He graduated from Moorhead State with a degree in education, and later received his Masters Degree from NDSU. On September 10, 1942, John married Audrey Haugen in Moorhead, MN.
John was an English teacher and guidance counselor at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School in Fargo for over 40 years. He was a gifted musician, playing in dance bands from the time he was 14 years old. He played in the Fairmont Oldtimers, George Schoen Orchestra and the Mel Eidsmoe Band among many others. He was good at remodeling and handiwork, and built a lake cottage.
John is survived by his son, John P. Gwyther, daughter, Marjorie Gendreau, both of Fargo; three grandchildren, Jeffrey (Cathy) Gendreau, Kari (Todd) Schwartz, and Keith (Jen) Gendreau; and four great-grandchildren, Rachel, John, Abbi and Ethan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey; brother, Robert Gwyther; sister, Barbara (Harold) Larsen; and son-in-law, Gene Gendreau.
Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
