Obituary

Janet Miller, 80, of West Fargo, ND, died Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Sanford Health Palliative Care in Fargo.

Janet Noreen Deal was born June 30, 1936 in Gary, Indiana to Rex and Opal (Yarnell) Deal. She graduated from Morgan Township High School in 1954 and later received her BS from Valley City State in 1971 and Masters in Education from NDSU in 1989.

On March 14, 1956 Janet married Raymond Miller in Valparaiso, IN. They lived in Valley City, ND for 13 years before moving to Fargo in 1974. She worked as the head of the Circulation Department at the NDSU Library for 20 years, retiring in 1999.

Janet was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo; a Sunday School teacher in Valley City; Girl Scout Leader; Business and Professional Women member; Vice President of the State Board of North Dakota Public Employees; Vice President of the State Board AFL-CIO; and was elected state Employee of the Year in 1995 by NDPEA.

Janet enjoyed her books, her cats and socializing with her circles of friends.

Janet is survived by her children, Raymond (Stacey) Miller, Williamsburg, IA; Rory Miller, Fargo, ND; sister, Joyce (Phil) Kubischta, Portland, OR; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Duane Perhus.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; daughters, Colleen Nygaard and Casandra “Casey” Perhus; brothers, Russ and Rex Deal.
