Carol A. Smith passed away peacefully at home on July 13 after a seven-year battle with Leukemia.

She was born on June 30, 1946, in Fargo to Oliver and Selma (Finstad) Hannestad. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1965. She attended business school for two years.
She worked at Herbst in the billing department for several years. She married LeRoy M Smith on November 1, 1969, and they were together for 53 years. She worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield, processing claims for 22 ½ years before retiring.

Survivors include her husband, LeRoy; son, Corey (Sherri) Smith; daughter, Cari (Steve) Mack; and two grandsons, Hayden Mack and Brady Mack.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Selma Rogers; brothers, Dick Hannestad, Sherman Hannestad, Jerry Hannestad, Jimmy Hannestad, and a sister Jean Emerson.
