Bruce Warren Sanderson

July 28, 1953 — July 7, 2017

Bruce Warren Sanderson, 63, passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2017, at the family lake home on Big Cormorant Lake, MN.

Bruce was born on July 28, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas to Gloria and Warren Sanderson. Bruce’s father, Warren, was an officer in the U. S. Air Force and stationed in Japan. He was lost in a Cold War shoot-down on the same day Bruce was born. Gloria and her two boys, John and Bruce, moved to East Grand Forks, MN. In 1968, the family moved to Fargo, ND. Bruce graduated from Fargo North High School in 1971. He attended the Bottineau Branch Institute of Forestry, NDSU for 2 years. Bruce married Sue Foerster in Fargo on September 1, 1973. They lived in Mitchell, SD and Rapid City, SD until returning to Fargo.

Bruce worked in fabrication and assembly for many years until starting at Case/New Holland, where he was employed until health issues forced him to retire on disability. Bruce and Sue were able to spend several summers with his mother on Big Cormorant Lake, where he was active in the Cormorant Lions Club.

Bruce enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Bruce and Sue spent many weekends on Lake Sakakawea chasing the elusive salmon. He enjoyed deer hunting, both gun and archery, and upland game. In 1988, he got a huge whitetail buck on the last day of archery season with his last arrow.

In 1992, John and Bruce began a search for information on the loss of their father Warren. After a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet with North Dakota’s members in Congress, Bruce traveled to Russia for three weeks to work with the U.S. embassy staff and Russian officials to find additional information. It was the trip of a lifetime.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Sue; mother, Gloria Overboe; step-father, Gerald Overboe; brother, John (Julie) Sanderson; sister, Cindy (Steve) Melicher; sister, Sue (Bruce) Nelson; aunts, Ruth Anderson and Alice Beaudry and uncle, Richard Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his father Warren; grandparents; uncles, Carl and Jack Anderson, and aunt, Norma Whittier.
