Carl William Reed, Jr was born to Carl and Madeline (Kohler) Reed on October 24, 1918, in Minneapolis Minnesota.

Carl served in the United States Army during World War II and married Bonnie Nelson on October 31, 1942. His wife preceded him in death in 2009.

After working in x-ray equipment sales and service for a number of years, Carl was the founding president of Dakota Medical Systems (DMS) of Fargo.

He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, golfing, and amateur radio broadcasting.

Carl is survived by his children Janet (Jim) Gilsdorf of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Nancy (Bruce) Markusen of Portland, Oregon; Carl W. (Susan) Reed, III of Houston Texas; and Patty Reed of Fargo; grandchildren Daniel and Joseph Gilsdorf, William Markusen, William Heckenkamp, Katie Carkin, and Anne Dubberke, five great grandchildren Lauren, Emery, Natalie, Ainsley, and McKenzie, brothers Robert of Montivideo, MN and Paul of Minneapolis, MN.
